Groni, pro-skier.

Adorable husband and I went snowboarding yesterday but this time with Eric and Groni. Groni, who loves the mountain, hasn't been skiing in ages. He was excited like a 'little kid'. Eric hasn't been snowboarding since 1999.
The afternoon was nice. Groni was wizzing down the mountain and Eric did some magnificent falls. A.H. and I spent a lot of time waiting and giving Eric some hints, which probably confused him even more. There were tons of people on the mountain; I wasn't at ease because I was afraid of someone crashing into me. ATTENTION SNOWBOARDER!!!
After a well deserved hot chocolate, we headed home and ate a racellete. It was colder back in Lausanne and Geneva. The bise was back. -3C with cold wind!

Adorable Husband left early this morning for his military service(3 weeks). He had bought new socks and thermals(70 swiss francs!), expensivo! So he is prepared to face the cold.

Adorable husband and I went to a Chinese New Year lunch organized by the Malaysian association here. To begin with, it was a pretty wet and grey day and I had to walk in the cold to get to the resturant Han Lung.
It was interesting afternoon. I found out that Adorable Husband and I were the first to join the association over the internet. We meet other Malaysian living in Geneva, either they are married to a local (like moi) or working in Geneva. Before lunch was served there was a lion dance by a Swiss group. Quite funny actually, it was the tamest lion dance I ever saw. It didn't have swift spazzy motions or energy! If you ever saw a real lion dance, sometimes the performance makes the lion look so real! This group needed a long way to get there.
Lunch was ok and we talked the families sitting at our table. A tip we got was that Chinese resturants all over Geneva aren't the place to go to get good Chinese food. Too gooy and not very authentic. Also, there are several good Malaysian owned resturants around and a place to go to get an authentic Italian pizza. (We had an Italian family sitting next to us.)
Then we participated in a 'game'. The guy who was organizing it was yelling so much that he scared this cute little chinese girl. Finally, ang pows (red envelopes filled with money) were handed out to all the kiddies (excluding Adorable Husband of course).
I am glad we joined the group. It is like a little home away from home plus they can give us some useful tips about living in Geneva.

I had some pictures of me with skates, but they were too blurry.

I went ice skating for the first time today with my friend Andrea, who I must say is a pretty damn good skater. The sensation of just gliding on ice was awesome. I was quite impress with my balance skills. I had prepared myself for all the graceful falls I would make, but I didn't fall once! I hung on to the side of the ring for quite sometime, but then Andrea showed me that it is all in the knees. Skating fowards is easy, but going backwards takes a bit of skill. However, I did manage to make a small spin.
The ice ring was full of romantic teenie couples, families, amateur skaters and skinhead skaters. A weird sight let me tell you.
We did a couple of rounds and break to warm up with a hot chocolate. Yum yum.
This might be a new past time I might start now since the ring is near my house. Next week is a Disco skating night. Oh boogie-oogie-oogie on skates!

Lunch in France.

I decided to go over to France to have a quick lunch with some of my friends I made at the WHO. Yup, in France! I had my passport and Euros all ready to be put to use. Ferney, France. Doesn't it sound all so exotic? It really wasn't to tell you the truth. The time that took us with a bus from the WHO, over the border and into France was 9mins. The border wasn't all that exciting, the guards looked bored and restless. They didn't even check for passport going into France or back to Switzerland. I saw a grandma in the bus with a shopping basket to do some grocery shopping in France. (Cheaper) Arrived in Ferney. Well like most towns in the winter time, it was grey and unwelcoming. Walked to find the centre ville and that led us to a small coble stone road that had plenty of small shops, but that were closed. Ghost town perhaps? No, it is more like where all the expats live that work in Geneva.
I was ready to sit in some resturant, but the girls decided to hop in a bouloangère. Boring. It looked like any bread shop in Geneva. Not much choice, but sandwich ala jambon, and more jambon avec formage. Double boring. I settled for some tiny quiche ala tuna and another one ala olive. They were just ok. Then walked back to the bus stop, hopped on the bus, over the border and zippy du dah, back at WHO. Probably the only reason I would return to Ferney next is to see if groceries in France are actually cheaper.

Friday evening after dinner. Molo playing gamecube.
